Obama Backs Workers Staging Sit-In
CHICAGO (Dec. 8) – Laid-off workers staging a sit-in at their abruptly shuttered factory are “going strong” and have no plans to give up the protest over severance and vacation pay, a union leader said Monday.Representatives of the Republic Windows and Doors plant were to meet later Monday with union officials and the bank that canceled the company’s financing. The protest has drawn support from President-elect Barack Obama and come to symbolize the plight of laid-off labor everywhere.
