Gay marriage will be recognized in the nation’s capital next week.
A D.C. judge issued a crippling blow Tuesday to supporters of a referendum to overturn the city’s same-sex marriage recognition law by denying a request for a court injunction to put the law on hold and allow more time to coordinate the referendum.
Superior Court Judge Judith Retchin, in a 15-page decision, also upheld a ruling by the D.C. Board of Elections & Ethics that determined a referendum aimed at barring the city from recognizing same-sex marriages from other jurisdictions would violate a provision of the city’s human rights law that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation.
Bishop Harry Jackson of Hope Christian Church must be having a meltdown now. His stupid lawyers couldn’t stop progress in DC. Not to mention that he will get prison time for claiming to live in DC without paying any taxes. He will have to mortgage his lavish homes in Maryland in order to pay for his legal bills for claiming D.C. residency. How does someone from another state get to challenge the law in another jurisdiction? Bishop Harry Jackson of Maryland does not have that right to fraudulently change his residence for the sole purpose of challenging a law that a democratically-elected city council passes. Soon we will have marriage equality in D.C. and all the anti-gay opportunists will have to find somewhere else to spread their ignorance.
