This has to be the funniest video from last year’s Black Friday.
There just has to be a parody of this made. I plan to stand in line for a cheap laptop at an undisclosed store I found in leaked Black Friday Ads. Being Trampled for cheap crap at Wal-Mart is always fun. Maybe there will be smaller crowds due to the Evangelical Boycott of Wal-Mart.
Buy Nothing Day is a good ideal which needs to be promoted. Gifts are a good ideal but buying crap that people don’t really need or want is a problem.
Maybe activists from Buy Nothing Day could stand in line and cause panic with statements like “Didn’t that little old lady cut in line?” or “I don’t think we all are going to get the $20 Off-Brand Digital Camera. I wouldn’t want to stand out in the cold for nothing.”. And once the activists are in the store they could use tactics like hiding the cheap stuff around the store and removing price signs from shelves.
There is a new post on FireDogLake which lists gifts that give back. Any Solider seems like a good charity.
I’m still boycotting the Sally Ann (The Salvation Army) not because any political cause but because of how rude I was treated there once. After spending hours going through stacks of vinyl records a couple of years ago, I get in line to pay and the clerk (who also happens to be the manager and a recovering crack addict) gets an attitude. I thought the records were $1 a piece but he informed me that they are now $2. I no longer wanted them and he started mumbling something like “cheap”. I didn’t want to go off and bring up his past addictions to cocaine and alcohol, or his missing teeth. But this was a family store. I left and promised myself never to pay more than $1 for a vinyl record unless it was an unscratched David Bowie or Lou Reed record. I just wonder how he treats his employees. I wonder if he inspects the racks of donated clothes and just goes on a rampage if he finds a wire hanger. It could happen. I did notice on the employees with a welt mark on his face.
