A D.C. judge issued a crippling blow Tuesday to supporters of a referendum to overturn the city’s same-sex marriage recognition law by denying a request for a court injunction to put the law on hold and allow more time to coordinate the referendum.

Superior Court Judge Judith Retchin, in a 15-page decision, also upheld a ruling by the D.C. Board of Elections & Ethics that determined a referendum aimed at barring the city from recognizing same-sex marriages from other jurisdictions would violate a provision of the city’s human rights law that bans discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Michael Jackson, the ‘King of Pop,’ dies at age 50. He will be missed.

LOS ANGELES – Michael Jackson, the sensationally gifted child star who rose to become the “King of Pop” and the biggest celebrity in the world only to fall from his throne in a freakish series of scandals, died Thursday. He was 50. Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles. Ed Winter, the assistant chief coroner for Los Angeles County, confirmed his office had been notified of the death and would handle the investigation.

I noticed 18 months ago that Candy Crowley was losing weight. I speculated that she had gastric bypass surgery. Today, she looks dramatically thinner. The condo in question, unit 630 in the upscale Whitman, is a one-bedroom apartment. Residents of the building estimate that a third of the units are gay-owned.

D.C. gay businessman Bryan Pruitt, who owns an apartment in the Whitman and who serves on the condo board, also said he had never seen Jackson in the building.

The condo that Jackson claims as his residence is owned by Joseph Honaker. A source familiar with the building said Honaker has claimed that Jackson is his roommate and is not a tenant.

DC for Marriage held a same-sex marriage protest at Dupont Circle last week. There needs to be more actions like this one.
